Yarrow Slaps artwork is a reflection of his last few years. “Yee Yee” is a greeting used to say what’s up… and the catalyst for the show title, “Yee Yee Cries Of A Lost Tribe”. In recent years many urban centers around the country have been affected by rent growth and gentrification. Yarrow Slaps feels his tribe of friends is leaving and scattering. They are the members of his lost tribe. Yarrow’s mixed media drawings, paintings and murals are depiction of friends and gatherings on the street, in natural settings and at home kicking it. Yarrow's paintings have a bow to the Ashcan school of Social Realism similar in style to Ben Shahn, Alice Neel and the the writings of Mark Twain. Yarrow’s art shows a down to earth, honest depiction of the streets of NYC and San Francisco. Yarrow recently completed a residency in Bed Stuy, New York and an artist in resident at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. He also recently received an individual artist grant from the city of San Francisco and is co-curator of the artist collective SWIM.
