Chris Lindig makes paintings and models depicting a sect of Eastern religion / Western-Heavymetal-organized-criminals that until now has gone largely undiscussed by our American news media; a sect that is so corrupt and confusing and utterly tripped out that one only need learn a little before they realize why no one has been wiling to say much until now.
Lindig, takes it upon himself to investigate and describe in glorious full color detail the exploits of these curious religious leaders cum mafiosos. They're giving and receiving criminal orders in the form of religious direction, sneaking around in bizarre sexual encounters, they answer to a large "psychologist" who shoots ashes from his palms, or is it an 80's metal god? It's sort of hard to say, perhaps because Lindig himself seems involved in the cult more than would, say, your average investigative
journalist. In many ways he seems more like the official cult artist, creating all of the public imagery of the group in question. "The Tenticles of Reality" will include models of the sect's rvs, trans ams and church, complete with cult members, as well as numerous paintings and drawings (and a limited edition silk screen poster), all depicting the world of Dioism in its full and mysterious splendor.
While this is Lindig's first solo show, he has been in numerous group shows at New Image Art since 2002. In March he was also included in Good World at Cincinnati's Publico Gallery (this was a companion show to the Aaron Rose curated Beautiful Losers exhibition, which opened this past March at Cincinnati's Contemporary Art Center Museum, and featured works by Barry McGee, Raymond Pettibon, Chris Johanson, Larry Clark, Rita Ackerman, Matt Leines, Ashley Macomber, among many others). In May, Lindig will also be showing in Community Whip, a group show at New
York's White Box Gallery, curated by Kathy Grayson from Deitch Projects. He has done two complete series of board graphics for Anti Hero Skateboards, and ad features in Arketip, and two issues of Loyal Magazine .
Chris Lindig will also be customizing two pairs of John Cardiel Vans, to be sold in a silent auction, with all profits going to benefit John's medical recovery costs. |

Brendan Fowler will be turning New Image's new project room into a small comfortable "chilling like" environment to show a "bootleg promo" of his new video works. Fowler is most commonly known as BARR, a "public speaker" who has shown and performed at Deitch Projects and Rare Gallery in New York; The CAC in Cincinnati; The Mu Foundation in Eindhoven, Holland; Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco; The Alleged/Annex, New Image Art, and RedCat Gallery at Disney Symphony Hall in LA; and countless rock clubs and living rooms all over the country. This show will serve as the "official" west coast debut of two new videos that he has been working on for the last year; while a simultaneous presentation in New York at White Box's Majority
Whip exhibition will serve as the "official" east coast debut. He will also be setting out on a US tour with current Whitney Biennial participants, Tracy + The Plastics the following week.
This show is made possible with generous support from Vans. |
