Move 5 Text is a diverse group show curated by artist Rich Jacobs. The artists in this show utilize letters and words as self-expression. Words are used to create design, and compositional elements within the artform. Some of the artists use written statements while others use poetic writings and symbols in their images. Sometimes the message is meaningful sometimes the message is not about words at all. Books and zines written by some of the Move artists will also be on exhibition.
The Move shows have broken ground in uniting the most vital artists of the young generation. Many have developed national and international reputations such as; Margaret Kilgallen, Barry McGee, Shepard Fairey, Chris Johanson, Thomas Campbell, Michelle Lockwood, Eric White and Chaz Bojoroquez.
Their aesthetic is marked by broken boundaries of street culture, skateboarding, illustration, graffiti action, photography, painting and drawing. Rich Jacobs has worked to tie these artists (from San Francisco, L.A., San Diego, Washington D.C., Orange County and New York City) into a powerful cohesive movement.
